WelcomeWelcome to Adrian's Croft. On this website you will find details of upcoming events, recent news and produce of the croft. We hope you enjoy looking over this site as well as finding any information you may require. Also, we'd love you to give us Feedback about this website. The CroftThe croft is situated on the North side of Loch Etive, along the road to Bonawe. The croft comprises of two fields; 10 acres on the North of the road, on the Moss of Achnacree, much of which has reverted to native birch woodland; and a 5 acre field lying between the road and the Loch, on which we propose to build a house and are currently cultivating. This croft has been in our family since the end of the nineteenth century and, although it has not been a working croft all that time, is now well on the way to providing for many of our day to day needs. The PeopleThere are many people who help on the croft and if I wrote about all of them the page would go on forever so to save time and help you understand better what goes on at Adrian's Croft I have named the main people on the croft.
Cath Thomson – The crofter
· Cath does practically everything on the croft, from gardening to hut building and feeding animals to paperwork. Without her the croft would cease to exist.
Colin Thomson – Loch Etive Electrical and work-force on the croft
· Colin works full-time in his business, Loch Etive Electrical, and supports the croft financially. He also helps with things like building fences and houses for the animals and isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty.
Crawford and Shirley Adrian – The landowners
· Crawford and Shirley own the land known as Adrian’s Croft. They have kindly let us restore this almost unused land back to the great croft it once was and are always ready to offer any help and advice they can.
Zoe, Zac and Josh Thomson – A little extra help
· The children are a great help at the croft and each child has their own jobs which they do. Zoe does a lot of work on this website and checks on and sometimes feeds the animals. She also does small jobs like watering plants. Zac helps out with building houses for the animals and feeding them. He’s ready to get his hands dirty and is always willing to try and help in whatever way he can. Josh, being quite young, can’t do bigger jobs but he will always help water plants and doesn’t mind running backwards and forwards fetching things. He always manages to make people happy in any situation and by the time he is able to help in bigger ways he will be well educated in the ways of the croft. All three children love the animals and enjoy spending time on the croft very much.
As I said before there are too many people who do stuff for the croft to mention so these are just a few of them but we shouldn't forget the ones who aren't mentioned here because they are just as important for making the croft run smoothly. The AnimalsWe have many animals on the croft and hope to get many more in the future. We currently have 7 pigs, Tammy and Porky and the piglets Roxy, Patch, Spot, Pinky and Perky; 1 goose; 1 cockerel & 9 hens, 6 ducks and 17 quails. We buy all of our animal food from Kintaline Farm and are confident that all of our animals live happy lives in our croft.
We hope you enjoy looking through this site and find the information interesting and useful. |
